“Creativity is the secret sauce to science, technology, engineering, and math.” - Ainissa Ramirez

STEAM

STEM and STEAM classes stand for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.

"STEAM is an educational discipline that aims to spark an interest and lifelong love of the arts and sciences in children from an early age. Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Math are similar fields of study in that they all involve creative processes and none uses just one method for inquiry and investigation. Teaching relevant, in-demand skills that will prepare students to become innovators in an ever-evolving world is paramount, not only for the future of the students themselves but for the future of the country." -JOSEPH LATHAN, PHD

That quote sums up why I am so passionate about STEAM in the classroom. I am hoping to offer students basic computer science skills, Lego robotics, coding, and problem solving engineering challenges. What they do and how often, will depend on their grade level.  We are hoping to offer some STEM to each grade level at some point through the year.  Classroom teachers will still be incorporating all their fun STEAM things, but this is a chance for students to get even more hands on experiences with STEAM.

RESOURCES:

Scratch coding: This is a great website and there are a ton of YouTube videos and resources to learn how to use block coding.

Tinkercad: This is a great tool to make 3-D digital designs.

Code.org: This is a new website to myself but I have heard great things about it. It                     offers many tools to learn about coding.
